2025. 11 minutes. Digital video and binaural sound with performance and found footage.
This video installation explores alienation and the search for digital closeness through the lens of ASMR video content, videos which conjure emotional (often unsettling) physical sensations in viewers. The artist performs as an ASMR content creator and directly addresses viewers, confusing the lines between screen and life, artifice and intimacy.
The sculptural viewing area for Autoscopophilia was created to evoke both a cave, an echoey place of isolation and hiding, and an online streamer’s bedroom. The two “stalagmites” next to the plinth displaying the video house a hidden stereo system, so viewers can listen to the up-close clicks and whispers in the binaural soundscape common of ASMR.
